Aggie boys, Wildcat girls collect victories

The Albertville Aggies beat Guntersville 39-35 Friday night at Albertville Coliseum in the archrivals’ first meeting of the 2008-09 season.

The low-scoring contest saw the Aggies (6-4) lead 12-7, 20-14 and 29-24 at the quarter breaks.

The game’s only double-digit scorer was Aggie Dareon Thompson, who finished with 10 points.

T.J. Vines tossed in eight, both T.J. Pams and Derek Hayes six, Michael Reeves three and Madison Tharp, Alex Mastin and Drew Epperson two apiece.

The Aggies hit 15 of 25 two-point field goals but only one of 12 3-pointers. They converted six of nine free throws.

Darrel Jackson’s seven points topped Guntersville.

Both Gary McCord and Malcolm Moore scored six, Brandyn Hawkins and Tucker Bridges five each, Jason Havis three, Matt Bass two and Ben Bradley one.

The Wildcats sank 10 of 23 two-pointers, two of 12 treys and nine of 18 free throws.

Guntersville girls 37, Albertville 27: The Lady Wildcats (4-2) outscored AHS 26-15 in the second half to post the win.

Guntersville was up 8-4 after a quarter, but the Lady Aggies grabbed a 12-11 lead at the half.

The Lady Wildcats built a 25-19 advantage at the final rest stop.

Guntersville’s Jerikah Madden scored a game-high 12 points.

Carlye Bice contributed nine, Cati Leak five, Kayla Stewart four, Whitney Avery three and both Kirah Havis and Meredith Moore two for the Lady Wildcats.

Lashaunda Spurgeon led Albertville (3-6) with 11 points.

Chelsea Jenkins tossed in six, Erin Sloan four and both Amber Barhorst and McKenzie Peet three.
